Just two weeks earlier I’d modelled in the long-pose room at Fairkytes Arts Centre for LeNu Life Drawing. Now I was back but in the adjacent room for short poses. It’s rare for life drawing groups to offer a weekly choice of sessions on the same night so all credit to organiser Natansky for keeping it viable.

Although artists can choose their preferred session on a week-by-week basis, people are creatures of habit and taste so each tends to head unswervingly to their favoured room, and probably a favourite seat. In fairness, repeated focus on a single discipline is the best way to develop and improve, but it’s nice to have options… to ignore.

Knowing I’d had recent shoulder problems, Natanksy encouraged me to ‘take it easy’ for this session. I’ve not yet developed a ‘take it easy’ setting though, so I still pivoted through my familiar style of angular shape-making albeit with my left arm contributing to the dramatics only in a forward direction. Life finds a way.
