Naked Odyssey 2016
Inspired by participation in nude outdoor photo shoots for Spencer Tunick, Matt Granger and Natansky – some pre-organised, others guerilla-style – I resolved that, from 2016, impromptu naked photography would be a part of all my world travels…
Venice in February
In February, Esther and I travelled to Italy for the first of three visits to Venice. This trip was pure vacation. We were based on the island of Giudecca, but it was on the beach at Lido di Venezia that we disrobed for photos in freezing flurries of fine rain.

Venice in April and May
We arranged our second trip to Venice for late April and early May, as Esther had been invited to perform Girl in Suitcase at Palazzo Ca’ Zanardi. The weather was much improved as we captured nude poses on the outlying islands… but still not yet in central Venice.

Venice in August
Summer saw our third and final Venice visit, returning for another Girl in Suitcase performance. As ever, we took many vaporetto trips around the lagoon and, on our last evening, I finally grabbed an opportunity to pose nude in front of the iconic Doge’s Palace and Campanile.

Edinburgh in August
Now somewhere different. An invitation for Esther to take Spirited Bodies life modelling to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe saw us visiting Scotland over a long weekend. We hiked to Arthur’s Seat where I risked Scotland’s strict anti-nudity laws to chance a pose on the crag.

Lake Bohinj in September
Late summer, we spent two weeks by beautiful Lake Bohinj among the mountains of Slovenia – one of my favourite countries. In warm weather and icy water we whiled away a day at the naturist beach on the north shore. We also travelled by boat, bus, kayak and most of all on foot, through magnificent countryside.

Brussels in December
Our last trip of 2016 was by Eurostar to Belgium, where the ‘From here to eternity‘ exhibition in Brussels featured extraordinary works by Angelo Musco. Lack of opportunity, plus little warmth, meant we took only one nude photo – me struggling to fit into our flat’s Hobbit bedroom!
